PrEP

About PrEP

Avita is committed to expanding access to PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis), a daily pill that helps reduce the risk of HIV infection in people who are HIV negative. Avita pharmacists have expertise in managing PrEP as well as provide a wealth of services to support you, including medication delivery, OneClick refills, and financial assistance.

PrEP is one of the most powerful tools in the fight against HIV. When taken as prescribed, PrEP reduces the risk of HIV by up to 99% through sex and at least 74% through injection drug use. Presently, there are two drugs taken by mouth that are approved, Truvada®, and Descovy®*. Another medication, Apretude®, is a long-acting injectable form of HIV PrEP that is administered by a healthcare provider every two months following two initiation injections separated by one month.

Is PrEP Right For Me?

You may be a candidate for PrEP if you have:

  • Had anal or vaginal sex in the last six months and:
    • A sexual partner with HIV
    • Not consistently used condoms
    • Been diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection (STI) in the past six months
  • Injected drugs and:
    • Have an injection partner with HIV
    • Share needles, syringes, or other equipment to inject drugs (such as cookers)

Talk to your doctor to learn if PrEP is right for you. PrEP is covered by most insurance and you may not have any out-of-pocket costs. Avita participates in Ready, Set, PrEP, a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services program that provides access to the medication at no cost to people who qualify.
